Season Two: Picasso, starring Antonio Banderas
National Geographic has released Season Two of this anthology series – “Genius: Picasso” – starring Antonio Banderas, which premiered April 24, 2018 and received 10 Emmy nominations. The second installment of Nat Geo’s narrative anthology series told the personal story of the Spanish artist whose work is synonymous with 20th century masters.  The history is rich as Picasso’s associates encourage him to flee his homeland at the threat of the Nazi approach in World War II after he sparks outrage with one of his paintings.  At 57, Banderas is an international movie star, who played Picasso beginning at age 56. That was in 1937, where he was known for spurring his most epic work – a mural decrying the bombing of a Basque village in Spain by German and Italian planes, in support of Francisco Franco.  That era offered a turning point in both stories Genius Season One and Season Two. Einstein, facing extra danger as a Jew, moved to the U.S. when Hitler took power in 1933; Picasso chose to stay in Paris.

Season Three: Mary Shelley
Nice Media Studios Co-Chairman Sam Sokolow will also Executive Produce Season Three “Genius: Mary Shelley”.  National Geographic has named its newest genius.  The cable channel has announced that Mary Shelley, author of “Frankenstein,” will be the subject of the third installment of anthology series “Genius,” whose renewal was confirmed.  “Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ left an indelible mark on generations of imaginations,” said Carolyn Bernstein, executive vice president, global development and production for National Geographic Global Networks. “Equally inspiring is the story of Shelley’s relentless innovation, coupled with her desire to live on her own unconventional terms despite immense societal and cultural obstacles. I can’t wait for our talented team to bring her remarkable, relevant and timely story to life for season three of ‘Genius’ and do justice to her literary legacy.”  First published in 1818, Shelley’s “Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus” is one of the foundational works of modern genre fiction. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a sentient creature, monstrous in appearance. Shelley, born in 1797, also wrote and published several other books, and was an intellectual and proto-feminist.
